Working away, just like Santa does

We have had a busy week in our classroom.

We have been preparing for Christmas and the arrival of Santa! We are all a little more than excited. Though excited, we still had lots of work to be completed this week, and we did much of it with great success.

Reading Awards
We started the week with our reading awards. 3 wonderful learners reached the 25 book mark (books that we can read all by ourselves). These students were rewarded with their reading certificates! I am a very proud teacher, and I can see a huge improvement in the reading of all my students.

Math Math Math
Seeing, as the Roughriders had just won the Grey Cup we thought it would be fun to use our patterning unit to make Roughriders jerseys. We made ABA, ABBA, and ABC patterns to make fabulous, creative jerseys that the Roughriders would be lucky to wear.

We didn't stop with our patterning. We have lots to learn and we kept trucking this week into our new unit measurement. The students did an excellent job at ordering sizes of items in the classroom, and creating a graph of "Big" and "Small" things.

Lastly, we are getting ready for Christmas by decorating our classroom. Friday was a FREEZING minus 43 day in Cut Knife, and buses were cancelled. Those who did make it to school helped to put up our class tree and decorate it. We made sure to leave some room for more decorations, for those who missed out.

All in all a great week. The grade 1's should be congratulated on their perfect spelling tests, and their hard work on their reading comprehension tests this past week. This next week will be full of lots of Xmas activities. I am excited to teach the kids all about celebrations and traditions and learn about what they do with their families during this joyous time of year.

Keep checking back for more from us grade 1's. Next week I will be getting one of the students to help with typing up and posting our blog entry.

Bye for now!

From all us grade 1's.
