Working away, just like Santa does

We have had a busy week in our classroom.

We have been preparing for Christmas and the arrival of Santa! We are all a little more than excited. Though excited, we still had lots of work to be completed this week, and we did much of it with great success.

Reading Awards
We started the week with our reading awards. 3 wonderful learners reached the 25 book mark (books that we can read all by ourselves). These students were rewarded with their reading certificates! I am a very proud teacher, and I can see a huge improvement in the reading of all my students.

Math Math Math
Seeing, as the Roughriders had just won the Grey Cup we thought it would be fun to use our patterning unit to make Roughriders jerseys. We made ABA, ABBA, and ABC patterns to make fabulous, creative jerseys that the Roughriders would be lucky to wear.

We didn't stop with our patterning. We have lots to learn and we kept trucking this week into our new unit measurement. The students did an excellent job at ordering sizes of items in the classroom, and creating a graph of "Big" and "Small" things.

Lastly, we are getting ready for Christmas by decorating our classroom. Friday was a FREEZING minus 43 day in Cut Knife, and buses were cancelled. Those who did make it to school helped to put up our class tree and decorate it. We made sure to leave some room for more decorations, for those who missed out.

All in all a great week. The grade 1's should be congratulated on their perfect spelling tests, and their hard work on their reading comprehension tests this past week. This next week will be full of lots of Xmas activities. I am excited to teach the kids all about celebrations and traditions and learn about what they do with their families during this joyous time of year.

Keep checking back for more from us grade 1's. Next week I will be getting one of the students to help with typing up and posting our blog entry.

Bye for now!

Welcome to our Blog

Grade 1 in Cut Knife Saskatchewan is a wonderful place to be!

Welcome to our Blog!

We have decided as a class that it is important and fun for us to have a blog. With a blog we get to explore technology and share what we do in class with our family and friends.

Get to know us and what we believe
In our classroom we do lots of learning and have lots of fun, but we also have rules and values that we care about. These values help us to have an amazing time at school. We recite our values everyday and we talk about how we can practice at least one of our values at school everyday. Below are our values

Our Classroom Values
We will clean our room
We will say good morning
We will say sorry
We will try our best
We will not give up
We will take our turns
We will help each other

In our class
We are a class of 15 unique and amazing learners. Our teacher Miss.Jennings encourages us to work hard,  and try new things such as: reading with friends, and writing out words that seem very tricky! She believes in our abilities and tries to make everyday  educational and enjoyable. She is proud of all the work her learners create, and looks forward to all the work everyone completes :)

What have we been up to?
This first part of the year has flown by and we have done some great work in reading and with our numbers to 20! We all did very well on our report cards, and we know what we need to do to learn to our best :)

We are well on our way to celebrating Christmas in our classroom. We will be writing letters to Santa very soon, and we will post what we have created on our blog soon.

Check back weekly to see what we do here at Cut Knife Elementary in Grade 1
